Just smaller than Vhagar, it is said that Meraxes could swallow horses whole and crush castle towers in her claws, with gleaming golden eyes and scales the color of silver moonlight. She is a frequent sight around the Isles of the Stepstones, standoffish but intuitive towards those who are not afraid of her, and as such seems to have made somewhat of a friendly acquaintance with the Lord-Protector Saan when he calls upon the Summer Queen. The Silver Terror is as ruthless as her rider, and the two look upon each other as equals and allies. She re-emerged over a decade later from the jungles of the Summer Isles to be ridden by Aelinor Targaryen, the Summer Queen. Upon Aserys’ death Meraxes disappeared, her keening sorrow felt long after her wingbeats had grown distant. After Rhaenys’ death, Meraxes bonded with the infant Aserys Targaryen - something highly unusual, and rather troublesome for House Targaryen. She was ridden by Queen Rhaenys Targaryen during Aegon’s Conquest, alongside Aegon the Conqueror’s Balerion and their sister Visenya’s Vhagar. Meraxes is a dragon of House Targaryen, aligned with the Summer Queen. Her fire is a clear yellow, to reflect the sand-gold of her scales. Her roar was so powerful that it could shake the very foundations of Storm's End. After Visenya’s death, Vhagar was riderless for a time, before being ridden by prince Aerys Targaryen, and later King Daeron Targaryen.īy the time of the Sea Drake’s return, Vhagar was the hardened survivor of a hundred battles, had grown almost as large as Balerion, and was the second-oldest and largest of the dragons in Westeros. She was ridden by Queen Visenya Targaryen during Aegon's Conquest, alongside Aegon the Conqueror's Balerion and their sister Rhaenys's Meraxes. Vhagar is a dragon of House Targaryen, aligned with the Exiled King. The battle allowed Corlys Targaryen to take the Iron Throne for himself, legitimising himself as Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and a true member of his house. His teeth were as long as swords, and his jaws were large enough to swallow an aurochs whole, or even one of the hairy mammoths that are said to roam the cold wastes beyond the Port of Ibben.īalerion died after wounds sustained during the Battle of the Blazewater, where he fought both Tyraxes & Quicksilver in the air above King’s Landing, killing both dragons and their riders (the princes Aemond and Aegor Targaryen respectively). His fire was as black as his scales, his wingspan so vast that entire towns would fall under his shadow when he passed overhead. Balerion remained riderless after Aegon’s death, until the bastard Corlys Pyke (later Corlys Targaryen) mounted Balerion in the year 105AC.īalerion was the largest of all the Targaryen dragons.
