The analysis is available here: Īnd the relevant stat blocks are found here: To fix this, I've created beasts that match the average damage output (and have similar defense capabilities) for the problematic CR 1/4 type of the spell. (Statistically Average) Beasts of the Land and Sky: However, such methods often lead to tremendous variance in the difficulty of combat (in a system with already high variability.) There have been several proposed solutions to this, usually involving a random selection of a beast when the spell is cast. These summoned creatures can range from the mild mannered frog to the game-breaking velociraptor, a CR 1/4 beast that has pack tactics alongside two attacks per turn. This is especially true for the 8 creature (CR 1/4) selection, where the variance is the most dramatic. This can be an issue for those who don't want to choose a creature that's too strong or too weak, and many don't have a clear idea of what beasts lie in which category in the first place. In other words, if "Conjure Animals" gave creature stats in the same way that the "Animate Objects" spell does, these beasts are what they would look like:Īccording to RAW, Conjure Animals is set up such that the player is allowed to choose the CR of the summoned beasts, while the DM chooses the specific form. TLDR: I've generated standardized CR 1/4 beast statblocks by computing the average damage output for all valid options for Conjure Animals.
